So, today is the one-year anniversary of my first post. Today’s entry is the 130th blogpost at Faughnan On Ethics.com, which looking back at the original concept I had in my head — having my blogposts be more concise takes on issues of interest to me, rather than the longer-form pieces I had previously done as a recurring column of the same name for a local bar journal — that number seems low. But, given that the concept in my head didn’t hold, and, instead, I’ve tended toward posts spanning closer to an average of 1,000 words give or take, almost 11,000 words a month on concerns regarding legal ethics and the law of lawyering doesn’t seem too shabby.
Purely coincidentally, this week’s posts will be much more concise offerings because, at this moment, I am incredibly grateful to be off on a Spring Break trip with my family. It involves a boat and the always fretful endeavor for practicing lawyers of truly limited internet, email, and telephone access. Because I am pre-loading these things on my way out the door, and cannot guarantee that I will be monitoring fully events in the world of legal ethics as they happen (if they happen), they also will be more self-promotional than is routinely the case.
On that front, I am pleased to give anyone who is still reading at this point a heads up that within the next 30-60 days you should be able to purchase your copy of the Second Edition of Professional Responsibility in Litigation which I am fortunate enough to co-author with Doug Richmond of Aon and Mike Matula of Ogletree Deakins. I am very excited about the quality of our efforts as the Second Edition improves and builds upon the First Edition.
We have added an entirely new chapter that addresses on the ethics of compensating fact witnesses, we have significantly overhauled the chapter addressing e-discovery, and have made improvements and a number of significant updates to other chapters as well. I am very thankful that the ABA was interested in publishing a Second Edition of our work, and once I have a link I can point you toward where you can pre-order it, I will revisit the topic of publication of the book with another update.
In the meantime, I can offer you a two-dimensional sneak peek of what it will look like.
